Floating Jig Flounder Rig

Floating jig heads may be a new concept for you but it has been around for decades. The floating jig leader allows fishermen targeting flounder to overcome challenges of weed, crabs, grassy and muddy bottom areas. This leader uses a 1oz sinker approximately 12 inches below the 3-way swivel and the floating jig follows 18 inches behind. This puts the bait in the feeding zone of flounder and keeps the jig from hitting bottom. The jig appears like a swimming minnow to it’s predators in the mid to lower water column. Live or dead bait can be added to the jig hook for added attraction. Minnows, squid strips and Gulp strips are good options but are not required for this leader to work. The floating jig heads are made by Tin Man Lures. The jigs come in multiple colors and are made with large sturdy hooks. Replacement floating jigs are available in the Jig section of this website. This leader works perfectly for bay or surf fishing. Use a steady retrieve with a slow to moderate bouncing action for best results. Also works well trolling the bays with a drift sock.
