Sargent is 2-wheel drive friendly most of the time. This beach is the best spot if you’re going to meet me on the sand and you do not have a 4WD.
Matagorda requires a 4WD vehicle. We can meet on the sand at a determined location. If you select the “Fisherman Special” trip I will pick you up a the entrance and we will drive to our spot in my vehicle.
Catching fish is not guaranteed. I will do my absolute best to put us on some fish but sometimes the fish bite is slow or not at all. I specifically target large species of fish - Black Drum, Redfish and Sharks. We will also have a “bait rod” out targeting whiting, hardhead, croaker and whatever else bites.
A fishing license is mandatory for all customers that will be fishing. Licenses are not required for children 16 years old and younger.

This is a four hour fishing trip, Saturday or Sunday. Meet me on the sand at 8am and we’ll fish until noon. Sometimes, the morning can be the best time to fish. Predators come in close to feed on bait fish in the first and second gut. A few rods strategically placed will tell us where they are biting and what they are biting on. Small sharks are normally plentiful during this time. Redfish and black drum are around too, depending on the time of year. It is best to fish a moving tide in the morning but not always necessary. We will deploy some shark baits out deep to see if there are any monsters lurking. I’m sure we can figure out a way to stay busy.
Sharks caught will be tagged, DNA sampled and released. If your shark is recaptured anytime in the future, you will be notified of the recapture details. You may keep any legal limit of redfish, black drum and other fish we catch. You will need to bring your own cooler to transport. I will not filet the fish we catch because it is illegal to filet fish on the beach.

Let’s meet on the sand in the afternoon. The sun will be directly overhead and it will be hot. Hopefully the fishing is hot too. By the time you get there, I should already have a good idea on where the fish are and what they’re biting on. You're already two steps ahead! We are targeting Bull Reds and Sharks on the big rods, and as always, we will have a bait rod out for small bite action. We can fish right up to dusk and we’ll see if we can catch a fish bigger than you!

Get out the glow lights!! The tips of the rods will be lit up like we we’re at a rave. I love night fishing! The sun is down and the temperature has dropped from the brutal Texas midday heat. The wind has picked up a bit and should keep those mosquitoes in the dunes. Sharks are coming in to ambush their next meal. The giant redfish are out in force. When one of those large rods goes off, the glow stick slams down, and the reel clicker screams as the line is being pulled out to the deep. I think the fish also like a break from the sun so we should do pretty well at night.
Night trips do not go past midnight.

You don’t have a 4wd but really want to get to a good spot. I’ll pick you up at the entrance to Matagorda. We are going to do a start to finish fishing trip. As we drive down the beach, we're going to read the beach and find a good spot to fish. The drive may be 3 miles or it may be 20 miles or it may be somewhere in between, depending on what we decide. Once we find the right spot, we will get the fishing gear out and go to work. We are going to work up the food chain by catching smaller fish and using them to catch larger fish. We are going to go over gear, baits, casting, deployments, beach set up, bait placement and any other questions you have. We are going to find the fish together!
This trip starts when I pick you up and ends when I drop you off. For example, on a six hour trip, we may drive down the beach for an hour and a half, fish for three hours and make the hour and half drive back - totaling six hours. There is a six hour minimum on this trip so we can find a good spot and then do some fishing before it’s time to head back. We can make these trips either 6, 8, 12 or 24 hours long.
This trip is best suited for people wanting to learn how to be more successful surf fishing. Let’s fine tune your fishing and catch some fish while we’re at it.

Let’s spend a day together. The longer you fish the better chance you have to catch some decent fish. I don’t get skunked very often on a full day trip. We’ll pick a time and meet up on the sand. We will have the big rods out for sharks and see what’s swimming in close with the 12ft surf rods. The bait rod in the wade gut should keep us plenty stocked up with fresh bait. We’re not going to rule out any fish on this trip. We’ll catch anything that grabs a hook and hopefully be reeling in fish most of the day. We can at least give it everything we got!

Dust off all that old camping gear because we’re staying the weekend. The 24 hour trip is Saturday morning to Sunday morning. If that’s not enough, the 36 hour trip starts at 8pm Friday night and goes until Sunday morning. I normally fish for bait when I get to the beach on Friday nights but if you’re there we can send a few baits out and start things off early. That’s when we find out what’s biting, where they’re biting and what they’re eating.
If you’re planning a weekend beach camping trip, I can meet you at your camp and we can fish at your spot. I can also pick the spot and you can meet me there (I probably pick better fishing spots than you). While you’re setting up your camping area, I’ll get the rods out. Hopefully we’ll be on the fish before you get your tents pitched.
I’m definitely not guaranteeing anything but I will say that I can’t remember the last time I spent a weekend on the sand and didn’t catch at least one shark or oversized redfish. I hope I didn’t just jinx myself. I have had quite a few action packed weekends with close to twenty sharks being caught. You never know until you try. Let’s do it!
